MCC will declare 100 mts radius of Central Market building as ‘no vending, no parking zone’, says its Commissioner

Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Rahul Ratnam Pandey said on Thursday that a 100 metres radius of the new Central Market building will be declared as ‘no vending and no parking zone’ by the civic body after a month.

Speaking to presspersons during his first ‘Walk with the Commissioner’ programme at the Central Market Ward no. 41, Mr. Pandey said that the Central Market building, being constructed under design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis through PPP model, is expected to be ready in a month.

Vendors have the provision to do business inside the market building. At the same time, there is enough parking facility inside the building. Hence ‘no vending, no parking’ zone will be declared once the building is ready for occupation.

The Commissioner said that the multi-level car parking (MLCP) project coming up at Hampankatta is expected to be completed in another one-and-half years. The corporation is monitoring its progress on fortnightly basis.

FIR against garbage dumpers

Mr. Pandey said that the corporation will file police complaints against those who repeatedly dump garbage in public places in large quantity and thus create black spots. They will be booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

He said that the corporation has begun monitoring the garbage dumping in public places through Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). “The civic body has begun imposing penalty on the dumpers,” he said.

The photos of such vehicles will be captured through the ICCC and notices will be sent to such vehicle owners. They will also be imposed penalty. If they fail to pay penalty and repeat the offence, police complaint will be filed against them, he said.

The Commissioner said that traders will have to display the tradeir licence. They will have to keep their premises clean.
