The Mysuru-Kushalnagar railway line would lead to a reduction in road traffic congestion, resulting in savings in both travel time and costs.

Expressing concern over the Railway’s move to shelve the Mysuru-Kushalnagar railway line project, the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has written to the South Western Railway authorities to approve the project and implement it.
In a letter to the General Manager of South Western Railways, MCCI president K.B. Lingaraju said the new railway line project between Mysuru and Kushalnagar has long been a cherished aspiration of the people of Mysuru and Kodagu districts.
A.H. Vishwanath and Pratap Simha, two former MPs of Mysuru, had evinced keen interest in the project, said the MCCI while expressing its opinion that the railway project would not only promote tourism but also significantly contribute to the economic and social development of both districts.
“With the implementation of this project, the transportation of industrial, commercial and agricultural products from Mysuru, Hunsur and Kushainagar regions would become easier, thereby providing a major boost to local industries. As Kodagu district’s tourist destinations, such as Kushalnagar, Dubare, Nisargadhama, Madikeri and others would gain rail connectivity, there would be a substantial increase in both domestic and international tourist inflow,” MCCI said.
The construction of the project and its subsequent operations would create direct and indirect employment opportunities for local youth, Mr Lingaraju said in the letter.
Also, the reduction in road traffic congestion would result in saving travel time and costs. “Importantly, rail transport causes less environmental damage compared to road transport and is more eco-friendly. It also facilitates easier movement for soldiers and essential services,” said the letter, while urging the Railways to approve the project at the earliest and take necessary steps for its implementation.
