A 48-year-old woman, who went missing from Shadnagar on September 22, was found dead in a deserted area near the Mekaguda crossroads in Nandigama mandal on Sunday, six days after she left home for work.
The deceased, Kummari Mangamma, worked as housekeeping staff at a Lenskart outlet in Shadnagar. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, including how she reached Mekaguda and what happened after she went missing.
According to a lookout notice issued by Shadnagar police, Mangamma left her house in Venkataramana Colony for work at around 10 a.m. on September 22. She would usually return home at around 1 p.m.. When she failed to return, her family began searching for her. Multiple attempts to reach her over phone were unsuccessful as her mobile was switched off.
Her husband, Kummari Tirupati, lodged a complaint with Shadnagar police on September 23, following which a missing person case was registered and police began searching for her.
The search ended on Sunday when Mangamma’s body was found near the Mekaguda crossroads under the Nandigama police limits, about 12 kilometres from Venkataramana Colony. The Nandigama Circle Inspector and other police personnel reached the spot and began an investigation.
Police are examining Mangamma’s movements after she left home, where she was last seen and whether she was accompanied by anyone. Her family members said she was wearing about four tolas of gold jewellery when she went missing.
The cause of her death and the circumstances in which she ended up in the deserted area are yet to be established. Police are awaiting the post-mortem findings as part of the investigation.
