Motors, pipelines used to draw water illegally seized in Theni

Following complaints regarding water being illegally drawn from Vaigai dam, Theni Collector R. Vaithinathan conducted an inspection on Wednesday.

During the inspection conducted in the Andipatti region, it was discovered that water was being drawn through pipes fitted with foot valves and electric motors. A total of 45 pipes and three electric motors were seized.

The Collector instructed the officials to conduct regular inspections and take appropriate action if illegal water extraction was detected. He also instructed the officials to regularly monitor the area and enforce strict action against the offenders.

Meanwhile, the farmers’ association in Theni district staged protests. They said sewage was getting mixed into Mullaperiyar river in Kerala. The contaminated water flowed into Tamil Nadu and this affected the Tamil Nadu farmers as they were unable to use the water for drinking or agricultural purposes, they said.
