In a major push for youth employment, Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar distributed appointment orders to successful candidates at a private sector job fair held at The Madura College here on Saturday.

The event was organised jointly by the Madurai district administration, the District Employment and Career Guidance Centre, and the Tamil Nadu State Rural Urban Livelihoods Mission, under the chairmanship of District Collector Nishant Krishna.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Nirmalkumar highlighted the government’s systematic efforts to tackle unemployment.

Contrasting the current administration with previous years, he noted that after the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay assumed office, government vacancies have been filled rapidly through the TNPSC and other recruitment processes to reverse nearly a decade of sluggish hiring.

Pointing specifically to the electricity sector, he noted that while past regimes recruited in minimal numbers, the government has now set an ambitious target to select and employ 10,000 personnel within a single year, with work already heavily expedited.

Bridging the gap between public and private employment, the Madura job fair drew more than 200 private companies spanning various sectors, giving over 3,000 young job seekers a platform to register and secure opportunities.

Fulfilling immediate aspirations, several eligible candidates received their appointment letters directly at the venue.

The Minister assured attendees that the initiative would not be a one-time event, but the district-level job fairs would now be conducted continuously every month in Madurai.

The recruitment drive accommodated a wide spectrum of academic and technical backgrounds, ranging from those who completed the grade 8 to postgraduates, alongside holders of ITI, diploma, nursing training, and engineering qualifications.

Organisers noted that the setup provided a dual benefit, allowing job seekers to land roles matching their skills and experience while enabling companies to source their required human talent efficiently.

As many as 4,261 job seekers, including 82 differently abled job seekers, participated in this camp. A total of 180 employing companies and eight skill training companies participated and selected 764 job seekers, including 31 differently abled job seekers.

Madurai Central MLA Madhar Padhurudeen, Madurai West MLA S.R. Thangapandi, Sholavandan MLA M.V. Karuppaiah, Corporation Mayor in-charge T. Nagarajan, and Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar among others were present during the event.
