Research on human–machine interface must move from the laboratory to real-world rehabilitation, said Ramana Vinjamuri, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, University of Maryland, at a workshop on “Introduction to human–machine interfaces and their applications in rehabilitation engineering” at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, on Monday.
Mr. Vinjamuri, an expert in EEG-and EMG-based neurotechnologies, brain–machine interfaces, and rehabilitation robotics will be conducting training sessions for students and faculty, sharing advanced expertise in human–machine interface systems and rehabilitation-oriented neurotechnologies during the five-day workshop organised by the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering (ICE) of NIT, Tiruchi. The programme is supported by the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) of the Union Ministry of Education.
Inaugurating the workshop, G. Aghila, Director, NIT, Tiruchi, highlighted the role of healthcare technology, artificial intelligence, and human–machine interfaces in translating research into clinical solutions.
Senthilkumar Nallusamy, Chief Interventional Cardiologist, Rana Hospital, Tiruchi, elaborated on preventive cardiology and the central role of human–machine interaction in modern cardiac care. He emphasised disciplined lifestyle practices and gave practical guidance for long-term heart health.
K. Srinivasan, Head of the Department, N. Sivakumaran, Professor, ICE, and S. Raghavan, former senior professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Tiruchi spoke.
