Officers told to ensure error-free electoral roll

K.B. Sivakumar, Managing Director of KSRTC and observer for Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, has instructed officials of the Shivamogga district administration to ensure an error-free electoral roll by following due procedure.

Mr. Shivakumar held a review meeting with officers in Shivamogga on Tuesday, during which he discussed the measures needed to ensure an error-free roll. Following the draft roll, the administration found discrepancies involving 48,666 voters, including 15,164 names that could not be mapped to the old voters’ list.

Officers should collect the necessary documents from the voters concerned to address these discrepancies. Booth-level officers must carefully verify the names of deceased, permanently shifted, and fake entries, and delete such names by following due procedure. Officers must maintain records and files for each procedure they handle, he said.

Mr. Shivakumar also asked officers to conduct awareness campaigns to enrol fresh voters above 18 years of age, stressing that no eligible voter should be left out of the voters’ list.

Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, Assistant Commissioner H.P.S. Mythri, tahsildars, and other officers were present at the meeting.
