Operation LUNGS is working towards protecting vacant lands and government lands in Visakhapatnam city from future encroachments

As part of Operation Life to Urban Green Spaces (LUNGS) 2.0, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) removed as many as 319 encroachments across all city zones on Sunday (December 14, 2025). This follows the 336 encroachments cleared on Saturday, bringing the total encroachments removed over the weekend to 655, said A Prabhakar Rao chief city planner.
Mr. Rao said that under Operation LUNGS 2.0, encroachments on roads and at junctions in all zones are being removed to ensure safe pedestrian movement on footpaths and unobstructed vehicular traffic.
He added that a special action plan is being implemented to continue the removal of encroachments in the interest of public convenience. Operation LUNGS is also working towards protecting vacant lands and government lands in Visakhapatnam city from future encroachments.
