Police constable recruitment examination held under tight security in Mangaluru, Udupi

Candidates write the examination for the direct recruitment of police constables (civil) at an exam centre in Udupi town on Sunday. More than 2,000 candidates had registered for the examination.

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) conducted the examination for the direct recruitment of police constables (civil) under tight security at 15 centres across Mangaluru and Udupi on Sunday. More than 6,000 candidates had registered for the exam, which was conducted between 10.30 a.m. and 12 noon.

A total of 4,022 candidates were registered to write the examination at nine centres in Mangaluru. The highest number of candidates, 686, was allotted to St. Aloysius PU College, while 504 were allotted to St. Agnes PU College. As many as 480 candidates each were allotted to Government PU College, Balmatta; Canara PU College; and Vikas PU College. Another 408 were allotted to Shree Gokarnanatheshwara PU College, 360 to Government PU College, Car Street, and 312 each to Milagres PU College and Sri Narayanaguru PU College.

According to a press note, 3,448 candidates were present and 574 were absent for the examination in Mangaluru.

In Udupi, a total of 2,367 candidates were registered to write the examination at six centres in Udupi city. Most of the candidates were from Udupi district. To help candidates, the Udupi district police had arranged free lodging facilities at Mathura Comforts Hall and the Mahalakshmi temple auditorium in Udupi town.

Apart from increasing security at the examination centres, the Udupi police had installed network signal jammers to prevent the use of electronic devices. Webcasting of all the centres was done, and the footage was viewed by officers posted at the command centre. All candidates were allowed into the centres only after a facial recognition check. CCTV cameras were installed at all the centres.

The Udupi police cautioned candidates against leaking the question paper on social media, warning of strict legal action. Those wearing religious attire had to undergo special screening and were asked to arrive at the centre two hours before the exam began. Similar instructions were issued to special candidates who came to the centre with hearing aids and cochlear implants.
