Police tighten vigil in Kozhikode after firecracker explosion kills youth

The police stepped up vigil across Kozhikode district on Sunday (December 14) to curb the bursting of firecrackers in public places after a 34-year-old man died during victory celebrations after the local body election results.

The victim, identified as Sandeep Jayaraman of Balussery, died on Saturday evening (December 13) when firecrackers he was carrying on his scooter exploded. His friend Jishnu, who sustained serious burn injuries, was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The police carried out vehicle checks at different locations and stayed on alert at celebration venues.
