Power cuts stem from past decades of rule, not TVK govt.: Karti Chidambaram

Those who ruled for 50 years are the reason for power cuts, and not Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government, stated Sivaganga MP Karti Chidambaram.

Speaking to reporters in Sivaganga, he said in the sexual assault case against industrialist R. Veeramani of Gem granites, those who aided him, engaged in kangaroo court settlements, or took money should be investigated, and strict action must be taken against anyone involved.

However, he said, there was no evidence to claim that past rulers are the reason for not taking action in this case. It cannot be said that politicians are aware of every registered case. Only police personnel may have connections, he said.

“Since the current political climate is favourable to TVK, they will win the by-election. However, giving an opportunity back to those who resigned their MLA posts and came back cannot be accepted. TVK could have given opportunities to others,” he noted.

With no threat to TVK’s governance, the byelection could have been avoided altogether, he said.

Mr. Karti Chidambaram stated that those who ruled for 50 years were the reason for power cuts in Tamil Nadu, not TVK. “Due to a lack of experience among ministers, they read out what officials write and hand over in support of the government,” he said.

There is no necessity to justify and speak about power cuts, he said, adding, “It is enough to release a white paper on the existing flaws in power generation and distribution. Those who ruled for 50 years must answer this matter.”
