A district-level consultation meeting regarding the Carbon Neutral Hub initiative by the Department of Environment and Climate Change was held here on Wednesday.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders to anchor the district’s comprehensive Decarbonisation Action Plan.
The initiative forms a core part of the State government’s broader strategy to combat climate impacts and secure sustainable, long-term growth across selected regions.
Deliberations centered on actionable interventions required to hit the district’s carbon neutrality target by 2030.
Key proposals highlighted during the session included the promotion of electric vehicles and green transportation, widespread roadside afforestation, the vital protection and expansion of local mangrove ecosystems, an accelerated shift toward renewable energy sources, and optimised solid waste management.
Cross-departmental feedback formed a crucial part of the roadmap, with local officials pooling recommendations to tighten environmental protection frameworks.
District Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company (TNGCC) Bagan Jagadish Sudhakar, District Forest Officer Akhil Thampi, among others were present during the event.
