Defying the allegations of former BJP state president K. Annamalai and news carried by few media organisations, the Salem Government Hospital stated that there is no lack of drinking water at the hospital and its premises.
On Wednesday (December 17, 2025), Mr. Annamalai alleged that for the past two weeks drinking water was not available at the government hospital. In a statement, defying these allegations, the Salem Government Administration said that per day 4,500 to 5,000 people are visiting the hospital and on an average 1,500 to 1,800 people are provided with medical care. Continuous drinking water facility is available at all buildings on the hospital premises and there is no water scarcity. Per day, 5.56 lakh litres of water is required for the hospital.
The release added that there are borewells with motor facilities available in 21 places. RO water facility is available at 64 places in the hospital and per day, Salem Corporation is supplying 3.70 lakh litres of drinking water. The toilets in every ward are maintained well and the cleaning details are recorded promptly by the in-charge nurses. All toilets are equipped with water facilities.
For lodging complaints about water issues, a mobile number, 73581-31350, is available in the hospital. Instructions were also given to tea shops operating on the hospital premises to provide drinking water free-of-cost for people visiting the shops. Failure to comply will result in strict action, the hospital added in the release.
