The South Coast Railway (SCoR) on Thursday launched a series of intensive cleanliness drives across its network, joining the nationwide push for environmental sanitation.
General Manager Sandeep Mathur administered the Swachhata pledge to a large gathering of officers and staff at the zonal headquarters in the city, marking the simultaneous rollout of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, and Special Campaign 6.0. The initiatives will go on till October 31.
Releasing the official campaign posters, Mr. Mathur said that the fortnight starting Thursday aligns with the core theme, ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’. The zone’s immediate focus is the comprehensive transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs), including railway stations, residential colonies, yards, goods sheds, loco sheds, and administrative offices.
Shramdaan event
A key highlight of the upcoming schedule is the nationwide Shramdaan event titled ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ scheduled for October 1. Spearheaded locally by the General Manager, the initiative invites railway personnel, their families, and local citizens to dedicate one hour to voluntary community cleaning.
Officials stated that daily thematic drives have been chalked out through the campaign window. These include targeted segments for youth engagement in schools, solid waste management advocacy under the SWM Rules 2026, heritage and tourist site cleanups on World Tourism Day, and dedicated welfare camps (SafaiMitra Suraksha Seva Evam Samman Shivir) honouring sanitation workers.
All four divisions – Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntakal, and Guntur – have been directed to accelerate ‘Waste to Wealth’ projects and eco-friendly practices, culminating in the observance of Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2.
