The success of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) candidates in the recently held local body elections in Alappuzha district is a reflection of the public’s solidarity with K.S. Shan, SDPI State president C.P.A. Latheef has said.
He was speaking at the K.S. Shan memorial meeting in Alappuzha on Thursday. Shan, who was the party’s State Secretary, was attacked by assailants at Kuppezham Junction at Mannancherry in Alappuzha around 7.30 p.m. on December 18, 2021, and succumbed to his injuries around 11.30 p.m.
Mr. Latheef said that Shan continues to live on in the hearts of the people. “Despite all opponents uniting against the SDPI in the local body polls, the party was able to strengthen its foundation. Political parties, including the Indian Union Muslim League, even allied with the BJP in an attempt to defeat SDPI candidates. Secular Kerala must reflect on the message such efforts convey,” he added.
