Senior Dravidian leader S. Duraisamy (91) on Tuesday demanded conversion of former T.N. Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai’s house at Nungambakkam in Chennai into a memorial.
Accusing both DMK and AIADMK of “deviating from the ideals of the late leader”, Mr. Duraisamy told mediapersons that both parties vied with one another only to drive political mileage from association with Anna, and that they had “forgotten” the ideals of the late leader.
Inner-party democracy has completely eroded in both the DMK and AIADMK, Mr. Duraisamy said.
“As the only Dravidian leader alive from amongst the DMK’s executive committee under Anna’s leadership after the party’s inception, it is painful to witness the party choosing late Cabinet Minister Murasoli Maran over the party founder (Anna) or Periyar for installation of statue in Parliament. Anna lived a life of simplicity all through, choosing to live in his own house while serving as Chief Minister. The onus is on the Government to take over the house of the late leader by compensating the descendants, who are in economic crisis, adequately and convert it into a memorial, as also take efforts for posthumous award of Bharat Ratna,” Mr. Duraisamy said.
