Seven scientists from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi, feature in the Stanford University and Elsevier Ranking 2025 list of top 2% of scientists in the world, according to a release from the varsity.
The list includes M. Lakshmanan (Physics), N. Thajuddin (Microbiology), M. Palaniandavar (Chemistry), M. Sathiyabama (Botany), R. Rajaram (Marine Science), T.C. Sabari Girisun (Physics) and P. Chellapandi (Bioinformatics).
Professor Lakshmanan and Professor Thajuddin have been listed in both career long impact and single year. Professor Palaniandavar has been listed in career long impact list and Professor Sathiyabama, Professor Rajaram, Dr. Sabari Girisun and Professor Chellapandi were listed in single year 2025 list.
Stanford University, U.S., in collaboration with Elsevier, publishes the prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientists Rankings, recognising researchers across diverse scientific disciplines based on various metrics, including citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, authorship-position-based citations, and the composite c-score.
Professor Lakshmanan is a renowned theoretical physicist specialising in non-linear dynamics, integrability, chaos, and pattern formation. Professor Palaniandavar pioneered metal complex–DNA interaction studies in India, advancing anticancer metal complexes, bioinspired enzyme models, and green oxidation catalysis. Professor Thajuddin is a microbiologist specialising in cyanobacterial diversity, microalgal taxonomy, and microbial research while Professor Sathiyabama is a researcher in molecular plant pathology, focusing on innovative strategies for plant disease management. Prof. Rajaram is a marine scientist specialising in marine ecotoxicology and bioactive natural products.
Dr. Sabari Girisun is an applied physicist developing innovative nanomaterials for applications in lasers, photonics, energy, and medicine and Professor Chellapandi is a systems biologist integrating multi-level biological data and computational approaches to uncover microbial virulence mechanisms and therapeutic targets for gut microbial axis diseases.
The Vice-Chancellor Committee and authorities of Bharathidasan University have congratulated the scientists, the press release said.
