Chief Educational Officer M. Sivakumar released a book authored by students of Government High School, Thevarkulam, at Porunai Book Fair at Nellai Trade Centre on Friday.
Pinju Viralgalin Kaaviyam is a compilation of 15 short stories. The students got exposure to reading and were then encouraged to write poems, short stories and essays. The best short stories have been published in the book. “The students have been working on the project for the past six months,” said J. Franklin Lourdu Selvarani, headmistress (in-charge) of the high school.
The first copy of the book was received by founder of Sri Ram’s Academy Meena Suresh.
Collector R. Sukumar, principal of St. Mary’s College, Thoothukudi, Rev. Sr. Jessi and District Educational Officer Sai Subbulakshmi felicitated these young writers.
“We took the initiative to give definite shape to the students’ creativity and writing skills. As a positive outcome of our initiative, the book is born now. I thank the headmistress and the students for successfully bringing out the book during the book fair. It will encourage the students, especially from government schools, to write and exhibit their writing skills,” Mr. Sivakumar said.
