Two passengers died on the spot after the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry that reportedly decelerated suddenly on the Salem-Cochin National Highway near Perumanallur in Tiruppur district on Tuesday.
The police identified the deceased as Manivannan (52) of Ramanathapuram in Coimbatore, and Rakesh (41) of Unnikkulam in Kerala, employees of a coconut oil manufacturing company at Perundurai. The accident took place when they proceeding to Perundurai. The driver, Ranjith, who sustained grievous injuries was admitted to a private hospital in Coimbatore.
The Perumanallur police retrieved the bodies of Manivannan and Rakesh from the mangled car and arranged for postmortem at the Avinashi Government Hospital. The jurisdictional police have registered a case.
