Tata Group, the country’s largest industrial conglomerate into diverse businesses, is highly positive about its future investments in Telangana, especially in AI data centres, semiconductors and EV manufacturing, claiming that it has potential plans for investments in these areas.
“We are very optimistic about Telangana. It is primed for growth supported by its massive talent and infra edge,” Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said. He was speaking at a meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy led Telangana Rising delegation, which visited the TCS Pavilion set up as part of the World Economic Forum meeting currently underway in Davos, Switzerland.
Mr. Chandrasekaran was highly impressed by the detailed presentation made by the delegation on key strategies, and goal driven vision for the next two decades to achieve US $4 trillion economy. He commended the State Government’s approach of not chasing investments at WEF, but focussing on promoting policies, vision and ecosystem, put in place in Telangana.
The CM recalled the successful partnership with Tata Technologies in transforming 65 Government ITIs into advanced technology centres and revealed his plans to upgrade polytechnic colleges into skill centres. The Government had started Young India Skills University with Anand Mahindra as chairman of the Board of Governors to hone skills of youth.
Mr. Reddy explained about the Young India Sports University and the ambitious vision to upgrade sports infrastructure so that the country could win medals at 2036 Olympics. Accordingly, he pitched for the Tata Group’s support in upgrading major stadiums in the State Capital for which Mr. Chandrasekaran readily agreed.
Mr. Chandrasekaran said that there was need for world class sports infrastructure, considering that there was immense talent in the country while the CM stressed the need for initiating sports training for children from very young age so that they could compete at global level.
Mr. Chandrasekaran was positive about the Telangana Rising vision 2047 and the goal of achieving US $ 3 trillion economy claiming that the State was doing well on all fronts, especially in talent, innovation and infrastructure areas. Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu briefed the Tata Group chairman about the successful conduct of the global summit weeks ago where the State attracted huge investment of ₹5.75 lakh crore.
The CM mentioned about the Government’s proposal to name the greenfield expressway connecting the Bharat Future City to Outer and Regional Ring Roads, after industry doyen Ratan Tata as also the plans to erect a statue in Hyderabad. Mr. Sridhar Babu explained that the State had just launched Life Sciences policy and Telangana AI Innovation Hub as focussed effort towards AI-first research, startups and innovation.
The Tata Group chairman also responded positively to the Chief Minister’s request for exploring possibility of investments in the hospitality sector assuring that the group was planning to establish several hotels across the State especially in temple towns like Medaram, Vemulawada and Bhadrachalam.
Musi riverfront project
Mr. Reddy explained plans to transform the Musi riverfront and bringing in night economy in Hyderabad. Mr. Chandrasekaran offered to help in Musi project efforts recalling that the Group was already involved in water body rejuvenation projects in Rajasthan and Maharashtra. “We can partner and are very happy to engage in river rejuvenation with all our experience,” he said.
