Devotees thronging Tiruchendur seashore on the occasion of ‘Thai Poosam’ at Subramanya Swamy Temple in on Sunday.

On occasion of ‘Thai Poosam’ festival, lakhs of devotees thronged Subramanya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur on Sunday.
The festival was celebrated with gaiety and pomp, with thousands of people arriving on foot to the temple from various places, including Tirunelveli and Tenkasi.
The temple doors were opened at 1 a.m. on Sunday, followed by Viswaroopa deeparadhana at 1.30 a.m. The Udaya Marthanda abishekam was performed at around 2 a.m. followed by deeparadhana. Around 8.30 a.m., the Asthirathevar of the temple was taken to the sea for sacred Theerthavari ritual. This was followed by uchikala abhishekam and deeparadhana.
Following that, Lord Alaivaayukandha Peruman was taken to the ‘Thai Poosa’ mandapam on North Car Street, where special abishekams and alankara deeparadhana were performed.
In an unprecedented turnout, devotees from Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Kanniyakumari and other districts had been arriving on padayatra over the past several days.
On the eve of ‘Thai Poosam’, Tirunelveli Road witnessed continuous streams of devotees walking in groups, chanting devotional songs. Volunteers provided free food and beverages along the route.
Identification tags were tied to the hands of [aadayatris at various locations in Thoothukudi district.
From early morning people took hold dip in the sea and waited for darshan in long queues.
Around 750 police personnel were deployed for security under the leadership of Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, with Tiruchendur DSP Mahesh Kumar supervising the arrangements.
Additional traffic police personnel were deployed to regulate the vehicle movements.
