The District Crime Branch police have arrested three staff members working for a jeweller in Dindigul after they were allegedly found to have indulged in stealing goods worth ₹1.43 crore.
Following a complaint from the showroom Deputy General Manager Renukesan, Superintendent of Police A. Pradeep directed the police to register a case.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that some staff members in the short necklace division of the showroom had allegedly indulged in stealing gold jewels when the manager for the division was on leave. The Deputy Manager is suspected to have moved the gold items on September 5 and November 14 while his superior was on leave. The investigations also showed that the suspect had connived with a few other employees in the appraiser section and in the cash section.
An audit conducted on December 2 by the management revealed that a total of 45 items weighing 1010.500 grams of gold was missing from the short necklace section.
While the police have registered cases against seven persons, three among them identified as Siva, Vinayagam and Karthikeyan were arrested.
A senior officer said that they were in the process of checking the CCTV footage and the mobile phones of these employees. Further investigation is on.
