Garment exports from Tiruppur crossed ₹46,000 crore last financial year, according to the Tiruppur Exporters Association (TEA).
President of the association K.M. Subramanian said at the annual meeting of the association held in Tiruppur recently that in a move to achieve higher exports, Tiruppur was exploring production and export of manmade fibre garments, technical textiles, and performance wear. The exporters should leverage the opportunities coming through the free trade agreements, and adoption of technology should improve for Tiruppur to be competitive, he said.
Kumar Duraiswamy, joint secretary of the Association, said international buyers were looking at doubling the supplies from India to their countries by 2030.
N. Thirukkumaran, secretary of the Association, said that despite various challenges, knitwear exports from Tiruppur registered 2.49 % growth last fiscal over the previous year. Tiruppur contributes 54.74 % of knitwear exports from India. Under the Samarth scheme, nearly 19,050 people were trained in Tiruppur.
Mr. Subramanian launched a redesigned website of the association and awards were presented to 24 exporters for excellence in various categories.
