The Alwarthirunagari police have picked-up two minors for allegedly kidnapping a teen.
Police said a group of persons from Kootampuli near Pudukottai in the district had recently gone to Kurangani near Alwarthirunagari to celebrate the birthday of their friend. When they caused ruckus under the influence of alcohol, Thangasamy of Kurangani asked them to leave Kurangani without creating problem in the village.
Agitated over this, they picked-up heated argument with Mr. Thangasamy, who alerted the police. After the police arrived at the spot, the troublemakers left Kurangani.
Against this backdrop, three of the troublemakers from Kootampuli went to the house of Mr. Thangasamy on Wednesday in a bid to assault him. As he was not there, they abducted his 14-year-old son on a bike.
On seeing his brother being kidnapped by strangers, Mr. Thangasamy’s eldest son alerted his father who in turn informed the Alwarthirunagari police about his son being abducted by the trio.
When the police swung into action, the abductors escaped after abandoning the boy in an isolated spot near Kootampuli.
As the police identified the abductors with the help of the information they could gather from the victim and the CCTV cameras, two juveniles were picked-up for interrogation on Thursday. Steps have been taken to detain a few more in this connection.
