The provisions of the Goondas Act was invoked against two persons who were arrested under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act here on Friday.
A press release from the SP’s office said that Esther (32) of K. Mottur village of Pochampalli, and Gurumurthy (35) of Sivarajpettai in Thirupathur district were arrested in a decoy operation. The accused were caught conducting illegal ultrasound diagnostics to determine the sex of a foetus. The two were arrested by the Rayakottai police based on a complaint lodged by the Chief Medical officer of Denkanikottai hospital, Girija. The duo was arrested and remanded.
Further, upon the recommendations of the Superintendent of Police, Krishnagiri, District Collector C. Dinesh Kumar issued orders to detain the two persons under the Goondas Act. Gurumuruthy was lodged in Salem prison, and Esther in Vellore prison, the release added.
