The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) will organise its 17th edition technical festival, graVITas, at its campus in Vellore from September 18.
According to a press release, the three-day techno-management festival will be inaugurated by Md. Alimuzzaman, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Chennai, in the presence of G. Viswanathan, founder and Chancellor, VIT; Pawan Vadapalli, corporate vice-president and global head of Digital Business Services at HCLTech, and Prince Jayakumar, executive vice-president and global head of Talent Acquisition at HCLTech,
The fest will feature a total of 227 events, with more than 40,000 students expected to participate. Of these, 76 events were already conducted, while the remaining 151 will be held during graVITas.
This year, 157 new events have been introduced, including 31 hackathons, 62 workshops, 57 technical competitions. 10 entrepreneurship events and 67 other events would also be held. Legacy events such as Robowars, CookOff, Aerodominator, and Quadcopter will also be held this year.
The total prize pool is estimated at around ₹25 lakh in cash and ₹1.5 crore worth of prizes in kind. Capital Hunt 2.0; ForgeAI, a 36-hour artificial intelligence hackathon; and kARniVRse, an AR/VR gaming experience, were among the pro events and technology exhibitions being introduced.
Other new events were MotoVault, an auto expo, and an exhibition by the Combat Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), showcasing indigenous defence technologies. Students from more than 300 educational institutions in India and abroad will take part in the fest.
Special events were also organised exclusively for school students this year. An exclusive interactive session will be held with Aman Gupta, a panellist on Shark Tank India, co-founder of boAt Lifestyle, and founder and CEO of OFF/BEAT.
At the valedictory function on September 20, Atul Sahgal, senior vice-president and global head of Talent Acquisition at Cognizant, will be the chief guest. Hemant Sahal, a VIT alumnus and founder-CEO of Digii, would be the guest of honour, the release said.
