Woman arrested for murder of her husband, a sub-inspector, in Nungambakkam

The Nungambakkam police have arrested a woman in connection with the death of her husband, a 58-year-old Sub Inspector of Police, at their house in the city.

According to police, Raji, alias Rajiv, was working as Sub-Inspector in the Armed Reserve Police and residing in the Lake Area in Nungambakkam with his wife Selvarani. On Sunday, Selvarani alerted the Nungambakkam police that her husband was found dead inside a room, which was filled with smoke.

She told the police that when she came downstairs from the first floor to wake up Raji, who used to sleep on the ground floor, the room was filled with smoke, possibly due to a book shelf accidentally catching fire. She said she immediately opened the windows to clear the smoke and was shocked to find Raji dead.

However, the Nungambakkam police said that, during their investigation, they found that Selvarani had served him food laced with sleeping pills in an attempt to kill him. The police are looking for her accomplice, Deva, who is believed to have been involved in the murder.

The Nungambakkam police sent Raji’s body to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
