A woman and her accomplice were caught red-handed in Virudhunagar district on Saturday. Following a complaint from Karthigaivel, an advocate, the Cyber Crime Police registered a case.
The complaint was that a woman, who had identified herself as Gayathri from Rajapalayam had assured a differently abled woman, Rajakumari (48), of a job at the District Collectorate. Believing it, the victim had pledged her jewels and given cash to the trickster.
It is said, Gayathri had called Karthigaivel and said that his relatives had given money for getting jobs in government department. However, suspecting a foul play behind the conversation, he had reached out to 1930 toll free number of Cyber Crime.
In a swift move, the police asked Karthigaivel to talk to Gayathri and make her come to a location promising to give ₹5 lakh. When she came with her accomplice Muthu Sankaran in a luxury car, the police trapped both the accused.
Interrogations revealed that Gayathri was allegedly in the habit of contacting differently abled people and promising them jobs and other assistance, would swindle their money. Further investigation was on.
