The husband-wife duo arrested by the Kochi City police for the alleged murder of a man had conspired to pull off the crime, it has emerged.
They were arrested on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) for the alleged murder of Ashik, 32, of Edakochi. Both the accused were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
Ashik was found severely injured behind the wheel of a refrigerated truck, used for transporting fish, in a deserted area in Edakochi on Monday night. The police said the accused woman had rushed him to the Ernakulam General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Doctors who tended to the victim attributed the death to profuse bleeding from a deep wound in the thigh.
“It has emerged that the woman was with Ashik in the vehicle. They were talking at the deserted spot when her husband approached them and stabbed Ashik,” the Palluruthy police said. The woman, in her statement to the police, had claimed that Ashik had sought her help after meeting with an accident.
The police said Ashik used to be a family friend of the accused and visited their house frequently. Later, the woman and Ashik allegedly developed an affair. She reportedly went away with him, and on her return lodged a complaint of sexual abuse against him with the Ernakulam Central police in April. He was arrested in the case and remanded.
