Give top priority to cleanliness in wards, civic chief tells GVMC staff

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg has stressed the need to ensure cleanliness in the wards.

The civic chief inspected various areas in Ward 21, covering Masjid Street, Vijayanagar Colony, Netaji Nagar, Koyya Street, and the Anna Canteen in Chinna Waltair on Wednesday.

During the inspection, he emphasised that daily activities such as cleaning of drains and removal of waste must be carried out without fail.

Inspecting the desilting of the main drain in Koyya Street, he asked Chief Medical Officer Dr. E.N.V. Naresh Kumar to intensify the efforts during the monsoon to check waterlogging and overflowing of drains.

Mr. Garg also enquired about the drinking water supply and functioning of streetlights from the denizens. He checked the dustbins placed in front of shops and ordered that every shop must compulsorily maintain a dustbin.

He visited the Anna Canteen near the Mental Hospital in Chinna Waltair. He said that hygienic, hot meals should be provided in the government-run Anna Canteens. He enquired about the daily footfall and checks the washbasins, toilets, token system, and food serving arrangements.

Later, Mr. Garg headed to Thumpala in Anakapalli to inspect the GVMC water supply head works. He asked the engineering officials to expedite the major water supply pipeline works in Anakapalli Zone and ensure the timely supply of drinking water.

He reviewed the progress of the main water supply pipeline works being undertaken with the 15th Finance Commission funds. Pointing out that the works have been delayed considerably, he instructed Water Supply Supervising Engineer K.V.N. Ravi to ensure that the contractors complete the pipeline works by September.
