Video clippings showing a group of youth making fun of women devotees by spraying tiruneeru (holy ash) on their faces at Periya Mariamman Temple here and dancing in an obscene manner in the house of a temple priest have gone viral in the social media.
Based on a complaint lodged by advocate G. Pandiarajan, the Srivilliputtur Town police have booked four persons, including the temple priest M. Gomathivinayagam.
Others accused by the advocate are Vinod and Ganesan, who also work as priests at the temple during festival time and one H. Sabarinathan, of Srivilliputtur.
They have been booked for using abusive language, outraging the modesty of women and also under the provisions of Information Technology Act for uploading the video in social media.
Meanwhile, Gomathivinayagam, who was promoted as assistant priest in the temple six months ago, has given a separate complaint against S. Kaliraj and T. Palanikumar of Srivilliputtur for assaulting him on Wednesday.
They had abused him for the video clipping of the obscene dance.
