A school bus driver caught driving under the influence of alcohol while transporting children has been sentenced to two days in Chanchalguda prison, following a special enforcement drive by the Hyderabad traffic police targeting school transport safety.
The driver, identified as Y. Shiva Reddy, 35, was arrested on June 18 at Maitrivanam junction during a routine vehicle check conducted by the North and West zone traffic teams. In a statement, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic-1, Rahul Hegde said that Reddy was found to be operating a bus belonging to Sri Chaitanya School, SR Nagar, with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 202 mg/100 ml, over six times the legal limit.
Following a case, he was produced before court on Tuesday, where he was sentenced to two days’ imprisonment and remanded to Chanchalguda jail.
