Cage kept to capture stray bear

Forest personnel have kept a cage at Kariyandi in the district as a stray bear attacked a farmer when went to his farm on Thursday evening.

When farmer Balakrishnan, 39, of Kariyandi near Thisayanvilai went to his plantain grove on Thursday evening, a bear attacked him and escaped. With injuries, Mr. Balakrishnan was admitted to the hospital.

As the forest personnel were informed about the stray bear camping at Kariyandi , situated about 35 km from the Western Ghats, a cage with honey and fruits to capture the wild animal was kept near the plantain grove on Friday.

The forest personnel have appealed to the villagers not to go to their ranches until the stray bear is successfully caged.
