In all, 28 persons, including 14 school and college students, were injured when two private buses collided near Madhava Nagar at Chelyar within Mangaluru Traffic North police station limits on Wednesday morning.
Police said a city bus was heading from the State Bank of India Bus Terminal to Chelyar carrying students, teachers and other commuters. When this bus was negotiating a turn, it was hit head-on by another bus travelling from Chelyar to Bajpe.
Most of the injured were on the city bus. The injured included 11 Master of Social Work students, two high school students, a PU student, four teachers, and four bus commuters. The drivers of the two buses and one conductor were also injured. All the injured were admitted to different hospitals in the city, and they are said to be out of danger.
The police stated that the incident occurred around 10 a.m. The dashboard camera installed in the city bus captured the video of the accident. Seeing the visuals of the accident, the Traffic North Police registered a case against the driver of the bus, which was heading towards Bajpe.
Private city and express bus owners have started installing Dashboard cameras and surveillance cameras in their buses for the past six months in the city. The bus owners have been providing police with visuals from their dashboard cameras following accidents and other traffic offences.
