By 2026 Pongal, AIIMS Medical College will start functioning on the hospital premises at Thoppur in Madurai, according to AIIMS Madurai Executive Director M. Hanumantha Rao.
He chaired a meeting with Virudhunagar MP B. Manickam Tagore, Tenkasi MP Rani Srikumar and AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP N. Chandrasekaran here on Monday.
Addressing the media, Mr. Rao said that due to the space constraints in the location where AIIMS Medical College is functioning now in Ramanathapuram, they had expedited the process to shift to the permanent location in Madurai.
To facilitate the shift, necessary works to procure equipment, students’ facilities, labs, 150 beds to treat patients, among others, were kicked off, he added.
To avoid difficulties to medical college students and to provide them with a better facility, the construction works would be expedited, he said.
Also, by 2027, the construction of the entire facility would be completed and to ensure progress, he said that they have asked the construction company to update them with monthly progress through photographs.
