Installation of street lights, sewage treatment and property tax were some of the key issues raised at the Dindigul Corporation council meeting held on Friday.

Mayor J. Ilamathi presided over the meeting in the presence of Deputy Mayor S. Rajappa and Dindigul Corporation Commissioner M. Senthil Murugan.

J. Karthik of Congress (Ward 21) said Dindigul Bus Stand and other important commercial establishments come under his ward. He said hundreds and thousands of people come to the bus stand and it was a busy place.

However, the areas in the ward were poorly lit and there was a need for the installation of adequate number of street lights. Though complaints were raised no action has been taken so far, he said.

S. Jothibasu of CPI (M) (Ward 35) complained that the situation was similar in areas under his ward. The areas and main roads were poorly lit and there was a need for installation of street lights, he said.

Deputy Mayor S. Rajappa told the councillors that LED lights were being installed in the wards. Steps were being taken to install adequate number of street lights, he said.

G. Dhanapalan of BJP (Ward 14) complained that sewage was being discharged from the treatment plant without being properly treated. Also, the workers were not paid their wages properly, he said, adding that there were arrears in payment. He urged the authorities to look into it and resolve the issue.

The councillors also raised queries pertaining to property tax. They said a special resolution should be passed and the issue should be looked into. The councillors said the property tax should be reduced till basic facilities were ensured in all the wards. They said that it was higher in Dindigul. A total of 60 resolutions were passed in the meeting.
