Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao has reiterated his ‘offer’ to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for a debate on the issue of river water allocation at a date, time and venue of the latter’s choice.

In response to Mr. Reddy’s challenge for a debate with former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao(KCR) or KTR, Mr. Rama Rao went to the Press Club of Hyderabad accompanied by a large number of party leaders, and waited there for about an hour on Tuesday (July 8, 2025) expecting a leader from the government, if not the Chief Minister, for a debate on the river waters issue. A few days ago, KTR asked Mr. Reddy to choose any one from six venues, or, the Press Club for the debate.

The BRS leaders and ranks raised slogans such as ‘rythula pakshana charchaku memochhinam, revanth meerekkada (We have come for a debate on behalf of farmers, where are you Mr. Revanth?).

After waiting for some time, Mr. Rama Rao addressed the media and alleged that the Congress government failed to keep any of the promises/guarantees made either fully or partially during the last 19 months. Apart from lashing out at the BRS leaders, particularly former Chief Minister Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao and a few others, Mr. Revanth Reddy did not do anything, he said.

KTR pointed out that even in Chief Minister’s Kodangal constituency, several farmers did not receive the recent instalment of Rythu Bharosa investment support. He said that he had come with the list of 670 farmers of Kodangal who did not receive the financial assistance. Every section was betrayed by the Congress which had made umpteen promises.

Alleging that Mr. Reddy too was working for ‘neellu, nidhulu, niyamakaalu’ (water, funds and jobs), he said the difference was that he was giving away water to his political guru N. Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister), taking funds to the party leadership in Delhi and getting some jobs to his cronies.

The BRS working president said that the Chief Minister had become so insecure that he was sending youth to jails for demanding jobs and for making social media posts against the government.

Former Minister Prashanth Reddy said neither the Chief Minister nor any of his responsible representatives had turned up for the debate sought by the Chief Minister at a public meeting — held in the presence of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.

The BRS leaders observed a minute’s silence in respect of 600 farmers who had ended lives allegedly due to distress since December 2023.

Party leaders P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, V. Ravichandra, G. Kamalakar, P. Kaushik Reddy, R.S. Praveen Kumar, D. Sravan, K. Sanjay, Kova Laxmi, K. Manik Rao, M. Gopal, Anil Jadhav, Naveen Kumar Reddy, M. Kavitha, B. Suman, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, G. Kishore Kumar, V. Srinivas Goud, Tula Uma, M. Rajiv Sagar, Errolla Srinivas and several others went to the Press Club along with Mr. Rama Rao.
