Trade union leader and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) State vice-president Charupara Ravi died on Tuesday. He was 76.
He breathed his last at a private hospital in the State capital.
Mr. Ravi was born to Janardanan Unnithan and Sumathi Amma at Vithura in 1949. Mr. Ravi entered politics through the Samyukta Socialist Party at the age of 18, inspired by leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jayaprakash Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohya.
He unsuccessfully contested to the State Assembly from the Aryanad constituency in 1980, from Neyyattinkara in 1996 and the Nemom constituency in 2011. He has served as the vice-chairman of the Rubber Board and on the director boards of the Travancore Devaswom Board and the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation.
Condoling his death, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Mr. Ravi left his mark as a socialist. His death was a big loss to progressive movements, Mr. Vijayan said in a message.
