Traffic snarls on national highway due to work on underpasses: NHAI

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) submitted before the Kerala High Court that traffic congestion was being witnessed at some places in the Edappally-Mannuthy NH 544 corridor owing to work on underpasses at five locations.

It further said that the corridor might have to be temporarily closed for traffic if the Collector of Thrissur deemed it unsafe for vehicles. The Public Works department has not termed the corridor as unsafe, the NHAI said, in response to petitions filed by Congress leader Shaji Kodakandath. He had sought an end to toll collection in the corridor, citing, among other reasons, that the NHAI and the toll collection firm had already recovered the expense that was incurred to widen the NH corridor.

The court posted the case for hearing on Wednesday (July 9).
