Officials of the Pollution Control Board (PCB), NTR district administration, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of clay Ganesh idol-making competitions for Vinayaka Chavithi on August 26. The competitions will be held at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector G. Lakshmisha appealed to the participants to prepare idols with clay and avoid oil paints and chemicals during the Vijayaka Chavithi celebrations. He asked the NGOs and environmentalists to participate in the event in large numbers and enlighten the devotees on the need to celebrate the festival with clay idols.

“Some devotees are making Ganesh idols with leaves, vegetables, fruits and seeds, which is very attractive. I request the students and devotees to participate in the clay Ganesh idol-making competitions at IGMC on August 26,” the Collector said.

“It is our responsibility to give a clean and green environment to the future generations. Devotees are requested to send the photographs of their models of Lord Ganesh to 9154970454. They can also gather more information on the competitions by calling on the same number,” the Collector said.

Mr. Lakshmisha reviewed the arrangements for Ganesh Navarathri Utsavams with the Revenue, Police, Medical and Health, VMC, AP Transco, Fire and other department officials. He directed the officers to take all measures for peaceful conduct of ‘Nimajjanam’ in the water bodies.
