KRCL to build second platform at Mulky railway station

The Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) will construct a second platform, 560 meters long, at Mulky railway station, a KRCL official said on Tuesday.

He informed the Dakshina Kannada District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting that bids to select the contractor for the project will be invited on Wednesday.

The official said that the approach road to the station will be improved by asphalting it an an estimated cost of ₹ 18 lakh.

Captain Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament who presided over the meeting, asked the railway department to ensure that all platform had shelters with proper roofs. The coastal belt receives heavy rain. Hence passengers should have proper protection from rain whenever boarding and alighting from trains, he said.

The MP asked Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan to identify suitable land for parking 100 electric buses, which the Union government has sanctioned to operate in the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City Corporation.

Mr. Darshan said that it would require about 10 acres for the depot of electric buses and temporarily the land has been identified at Mudipu, Thiruvail and Pumpwell.

Capt. Chowta said that the land should be finalised in consultation with elected representatives and it should be within the radius of the city.

The MP told the meeting the that Union government has sanctioned a Regional Driving Centre to Dakshina Kannada.

An official from the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) stated that the Plastic Park at Ganjimutt is expected to be ready by the end of September. The sites for industries can be allotted from October onwards, he said, adding that the park will be developed on 90 acres. Only power supply works were pending, he said.
