The Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK) has urged the State government to commence construction of overbridges at the railway gate near Parisal Thurai in Erode, and at the Anangur gate in Namakkal district.
In a press release, the party’s general secretary and Tiruchengode MLA E.R. Eswaran said the Erode–Karur railway line intersects the Outer Ring Road connecting Kokkarayanpettai in Namakkal district with Thindal in Erode. Similarly, the Erode–Chennai railway line crosses the Veppadai–Tiruchengode Road at Anangur. Both these locations lie on major roads that witness heavy traffic, and a large number of trains pass through these crossings. Since the gates are manually operated, the risk of accidents remains high, and frequent closures cause severe traffic congestion.
The party stated that the issue was raised several times in the State Assembly, and the Minister for Highways had acknowledged the importance of the projects. The Minister had assured the Assembly over the past four years that both the bridges would be completed soon. “However, I regret to state that government orders for these works have not been issued to date,” the release said.
The release urged the government to take immediate action and commence construction of the bridges without waiting for accidents to occur.
