The State government has increased the fee for government quota seats in engineering and architecture courses for the academic year 2025-26. The fee has been hiked by 7.5% for government quota seats in private unaided technical educational institutions and by 5% in government engineering colleges.
However, the government has announced a 50% fee waiver for five engineering courses – civil, mechanical, automobile, textile technology, and silk technology, which are seeing fewer takers. The fee waiver will be applicable only in government colleges.
Fees hiked
According to the order issued on July 5, the fee for government quota CET engineering seats in Type 1 private colleges is pegged at ₹81,800 – up from ₹76,135 last year – and in Type 2 private colleges at ₹91,000 – up from ₹84,596 last year – apart from university registration and other processing fee. The fees will total to ₹1,12,410 in Type 1 private colleges and ₹1,21,610 in Type 2 private colleges.
In COMED-K Type 1 colleges, the fee is pegged at ₹2,00,000 – up from ₹1,86,111 last year – and ₹2,81,100 – up from ₹2,61,477 last year – for Type 2 COMED-K colleges. These colleges will not have additional university registration and processing fees.
As mentioned in the order, the private engineering colleges are allowed to charge up to ₹20,000 as additional charges in the first year. The government has exempted the tuition fee for the candidates admitted under 5% supernumerary quota seats.
Fees for seats in all government engineering colleges has been hiked by 5% this academic year.
As per the order, the fee for all seats in government engineering colleges and 95% of seats in aided engineering colleges (5% management quota) is ₹44,200 – up from ₹42,116 last year. The fee for the 50% seats in engineering and architecture courses in the constituent colleges of the University of Mysore, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), is ₹44,200, including university registration and other processing fees. The fees at University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) is ₹49,600 – up from ₹47,250 last year.
Fee waiver
In a bid to attract more students to courses which have had fewer takers over the past few years, the State government has announced a 50% fee waiver in government engineering colleges for mechanical engineering, automobile engineering, civil engineering, engineering in textile technology and silk technology courses.
“Students in these courses, where less than 50% of the approved admissions are enrolled in government engineering colleges, have been given a 50% fee waiver,” the order reads.
