A Delhi court recently asked Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to ensure that the Investigating Officers (IO) in cases related to the north-east riots don’t get additional duties on days they are scheduled to appear for hearings. Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh of the Karkardooma courts passed the orders on July 4 while hearing a case registered at the Dayalpur police station in which nine persons have been accused of various offences. The IO in the case, who is one of the two remaining witnesses to be examined, skipped the hearing citing a scheduled assignment at Bharat Mandapam.

The court said it had sent multiple reminders to the IO to appear and that the hearing had to be deferred twice in the past due to similar reasons.
