Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy will visit Telangana this month to review functioning of central public sector undertakings in the State and examine the possibilities of reviving the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) and Sponge Iron India (SIIL) units.
Mr. Kumaraswamy conveyed this to Telangana IT and Industries D.Sridhar Babu who met him in New Delhi on Wednesday (July 9, 2025). The Union Minister also convened a review meeting for revival of the units and instructed the officials to submit a comprehensive report to initiate revival measures of CCI unit in Adilabad and SIIL unit in Paloncha, Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
The Union Minister promised full support from the Central government in line with the objectives of the Telangana government, Mr. Sridhar Babu’s office said in a press release – issued by Telangana Information Centre in New Delhi.

CMD of CCI Sanjay Banga and other officials from the central departments concerned participated in the review meeting in which the State Minister stressed the need and significance of reviving CCI and SIIL and, in support, cited the revival of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals in Peddapalli district with an investment of ₹5,000 crore.
Mr. Sridhar Babu explained to the Union Minister reasons that led to closure of the two units. He also highlighted the potential to generate employment for youth and economic development through the revival. The Minister emphasised that reviving these units in backward and Maoist-affected regions such as Adilabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem would lead to balanced regional development and contribute to both State and national progress. He urged the Centre to consider revival as a step toward socioeconomic upliftment. Nikhil Chakravarthy, director of Telangana Department of Industries attended the meeting.
