A driver and a caretaker of a children’s home in Oonamanchery of Chengalpattu district were arrested on charges of sexual assault of 16 minor girls, on Saturday (July 12, 2025) by Vandalur All Women Police.
According to a statement issued by the police, an inquiry was held at the home where 16 boys and 18 girls are lodged, following an alert from the District Child Protection Officer, Chengalpattu.
It has been alleged that a 70-year-old man who managed the home and the 52-year-old driver employed at the home, committed acts of sexual assault and sexual harassment against 16 minor girls in the home.
A case was registered on Friday against the septuagenarian administrator of the children’s home, the driver and a 40-year-old woman caretaker (the administrator’s daughter) under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the BNS Act. The driver and the woman caretaker were arrested.
Later, all the inmates have been shifted to two other homes for care and protection.
