An employment fair was organised jointly under the aegis of the district administration and the district employment and guidance centre at the Government Arts and Science College for Women in Hosur.
Speaking at the employment fair, and distributing the job orders to young women, Collector C. Dinesh Kumar said the fair was a representation of the overarching reach of the Government that went beyond ensuring universal higher education but also facilitating employment opportunities.
“No other government accords the kind of significance to education like the Tamil Nadu government. There is no phase of education untouched by the government, which includes scholarships for higher education abroad,” adds Mr. Dinesh Kumar.
The Collector also reached out to many young minds with anecdotal evidence from his personal life. “If someone like me, born in a small hamlet, and struggled to even find three full meals a day could stand in front of you today, it is solely because of education,” Mr. Dinesh Kumar said. Handing out job orders, Mr. Dinesh Kumar urged the new entrants into the job force to reach managerial positions and embark into entrepreneurship to become employers themselves.
Speaking to The Hindu, Gowrishankar, the District Employment Officer, who had coordinated the event said, over 105 companies participated, with the department reaching out seeking participation irrespective of the number of vacancies. Over 2,500 candidates participated in the camp, which was also a recruitment predominantly for trainees/apprentices by some of the major companies such as Tata Electronics.
“There are recruitments happening outside these mega job fairs as well, through the government portal, www.tnprivatejobs.tn.gov.in where companies regularly post the number of vacancies for positions, Mr. Gowrishankar added.
