A 23-year-old man was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Jolarpet, for placing a concrete stone on the railway track between Ambur and Pachakuppam railway stations near Jolarpet town in Tirupattur on Saturday.
Police said the arrested person was identified as M. Sivakumar (23), who runs a wastepaper mart in the area. Residents, who saw Sivakumar standing near the track after placing the stone, alerted Jolarpet GRP.
Initial inquiry revealed that Sivakumar was trying to remove a steel rod from the broken concrete stone. As he was unable to remove it, Sivakumar said that he kept the slab on the railway track to break it by the moving train.
A case was registered based on a complaint by a resident. He was lodged at the sub-jail in Tirupattur town, and further probe is under way.
