Charging the State government for pressurising the revenue officials in the name of solving petitions collected under ‘Ungaludan Stalin,’ scheme, members affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officials’ Association (TNROA) as part of the 48-hour – Statewide – strike boycotted works on Wednesday.
R. Gopi, TNROA, district president, said, due to the faulty manner in which the scheme had been prepared, the revenue officials were overburdened with thousands of petitions received through the camps.
“Though the government has marked 45 days for resolving the petitions, certain Collectors demand solution to the petitions within 20 to 30 days,” he complained.
Issues like putting pressure on the staff to conduct camps on Saturdays, compelling them to upload petitions on the website the same day, allocation of insufficient fund to implement the scheme, late night review meetings, among others were pushing the staff into distress, he added.
For the proper implementation of the scheme, the process should have started about a year ago, but, for many reasons, rushing it in a short period would only amount to confusion and improper implementation, he stated.
Demanding to increase the time limit to 75 days, Mr. Gopi, said, the number of camps in a week should be reduced to two and to manage the expenditure incurred during the camps it should be reimbursed or should be provided prior to the camps.
Deputy Tashildar posts should be created in each taluk for implementing special schemes including ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ camps and giving the certificates to the public, he demanded.
In addition to this, they demanded the State government to not just concentrate on implementing new schemes and projects but should also fill the existing vacancies in the revenue department.
They stressed that without the necessary work strength the desired result of any scheme or project could not be achieved and the end result would only be loss of funds and incomplete implementation.
