“With the demise of V.S. Achuthanandan, the CPI(M) has lost a leader with great stature,” said former Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly Therambil Ramakrishnan. Reflecting on the legacy of the veteran politician, Mr. Ramakrishnan remarked that VS was a personality who could never be overlooked in Kerala’s political landscape, thanks to his unwavering positions and principles.

“Though we had political differences, VS was a leader who never allowed personal bitterness or malice to cloud his interactions,” he said, recalling the former Chief Minister’s unique oratory style in and outside the Assembly. “As a fellow legislator, I have often admired how his speeches connected deeply with the common man.”

During his tenure as Speaker, Mr. Ramakrishnan had the opportunity to work closely with VS, who was then the Leader of the Opposition. “Many memories come to mind. As Opposition Leader, he publicly acknowledged my impartiality as Speaker on several occasions. I consider that one of the highest recognitions I’ve ever received,” he added.

“His passing marks the end of an era, a strong link to an earlier generation of political leaders. I bow in respectful tribute to the shining memory of a true stalwart,” said Mr. Ramakrishnan.
